Devotional Guide

In the two weeks leading up to our Grace Offering we're going to immerse ourselves in grace. That's not to say that we will sin more so that grace may abound (Paul argued against that in Romans 6), but we want to soak up what God has done for us. For it is only when we truly appreciate what God has done for us that grace will flow through us.

For each day from March 23 - April 5 we'll take a look at a Scripture that teaches us something about grace. As I was putting all these verses together I was surprised to see that grace is more often used to express the change that takes place in our life rather than just the forgiveness we experience. Both are important concepts in understanding grace, but I tend to believe we have emphasized the forgiveness aspect far more than the transforming aspect.

Each day read the Scripture (you may want to go a little deeper and read the verses before and after as well), read the brief thought, and then use the prayer to bring your thoughts before our Father.

So join us as we delve into this amazing grace!

FRIDAY, APRIL 3, DAY TWELVE - DON’T MISS GRACE

Today's Scripture:
Hebrews 12:15
See to it that no one misses the grace of God.

Today's Thought:
It seems hard to believe, but even the most faithful church attendees can live their lives and never encounter the grace of God.  That's not to say they live unforgiven lives and that they don’t go to heaven, but perhaps they have lived their lives never having appreciated the great gift they have.   Such people live in fear and frustration.  They don’t allow grace to flow through them.  They miss opportunities to shine the warmth of God's grace into the lives of others.  They see God as constantly angry and  annoyed at them, and, because of that, they never feel an intimacy with the Father who so wants to embrace them.

How can that happen?

We get so busy doing church work that we forget who we’re working for.  We don’t confess our sins.  We don’t accept God's forgiveness.  We allow our failures to overshadow God's love.  We allow bitterness towards others to choke out the fruit of the Spirit.   We miss the grace of God, and what a terrible thing that is!

Today, make sure you don’t miss out on God's precious grace.  Commit to daily reminding yourself that God loves you more than you can imagine and that He has provided for your spiritual needs.  Never miss out on the grace of God!

Today's Prayer:
Lord, we so often say our prayers, go to church, read our Bibles and miss out on the overriding message - your grace.  Perhaps our feelings of guilt and insufficiency can be traced back to overlooking your grace.   We repent for not reminding ourselves that you are a great and merciful God abounding in grace.   There are many things we may miss out on, but we pray that grace is not one of them.  In the name of Jesus we offer this prayer.  Amen.
